Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng is a dystopian novel set in the near future when children are being re-placed due to concerns about “anti-American” sentiments. Anti-Chinese and anti-Asian racism is rampant following the Crisis. As a result, Bird is living alone with his father following the departure of his mother, a Chinese American poet. Ng is an exquisite writer and her ability to “show without telling” makes for engaging reading.
